Setting God’s Word Free

You would think that if there are over 100 translations in the world there would be no need for a new bible translation. That’s what I thought until I realized that most of those bibles are either copyrighted or outdated.

The ones that are copyrighted have restrictions on usage. That just isn’t right. I understand that translation costs a lot of money and those people need to be compensated for their time. The workman is worthy of his wages. However, the copyright restrictions on the most popular, up to date translations make it difficult for the word of God and works that quote the word of God to be easily promoted.

One reason why I feel God called me to this work is so as much of God’s word that needs to be quoted for those who write can be done so freely, without restriction. This work will also be copyrighted but it won’t be restricted. Freely I received God’s word and freely I want to give it to others.

Did you know that in Africa in the outlying areas the average monthly income is between $30 and $60 USD? What’s more is that a modern translation costs $150! Just to buy a modern translation that’s easier to understand you’d have to save 5 months of your income. Imagine if you had to give 5 months of YOUR income to purchase a bible and you can see the difficulty.

Did you know that according to most of the copyrights on the modern bibles you are legally restricted to having no more than 25% of your article as scripture? Anything more than that and you become a criminal. Quoting the word of God too much makes you a criminal!

Did you know that if you’re writing something that is being sold commercially you have to contact the copyright holder to get permission to quote the word of God … that they own!

I checked once with a bible software company and they told me they couldn’t afford to add the NIV because the licensing fee was $25,000!

I know that the workman is worthy of his labor but to lock the word of God away in a box and only charge those who can afford to use it how God intended just isn’t right. That’s why a modern version needs to be created and given to the world.

Set God’s Word Free

I just got through making a post and I was forced to use the King James Version (KJV) because it’s in the public domain. I couldn’t use either of the other 2 primary versions that I use all the time for study. The NIV and the NASB require that only 25% of your post, article, etc be their translation.

It’s so very sad to me that God’s word is owned by men. I know the workman is worthy of his wages. I don’t want to say that people shouldn’t make money when they share the word of God. After all Pastors get paid to share the word. I don’t condemn those who go to all the trouble to translate God’s word into a modern, accurate and easily readable text.

I just think that God’s word should be freely given to the world to advance the kingdom of God. I’m looking for help from others who agree with this point of view. Please help us make God’s word free for everyone in a modern, accurate and easily readable text. Please register and start sharing on the blog today.

Want To Change The World?

Are you looking for a way to change the world? If so I have a wonderful opportunity for you. I’m planning on changing the world through a 5 phase process. The Gift Bible Project is small and it’s new. We’re already reaching out to others in every nation in the world.

I need help from people in every nation. You don’t have to be a preacher or someone officially recognized in the world. It can be as simply as just sharing the basic information about the project. I’m currently having one of our volunteers assemble a press kit for the media. If you have ideas about how to share an information packet with people, not the media, register and become a member.

There are other areas of the blog that aren’t available to the general public. Once you become a member you can get set up to see those areas that interest you. Remember, this project isn’t just about creating a new bible, it’s about creating a world wide ministry.

Be sure to read the “About the Project” page at http://www.thegiftbible.com/about-the-project/.

Day of Prayer

I hope you had a good Day of Prayer this week. I’d like to ask you to keep our The Gift Bible in your prayers. If it’s only 2 minutes once a week it will help. Without God behind this project the blunt fact of the matter is that it will fail. Your prayer support is the number one thing we need.

New African Coordinator

We’re making progress. We now have a coordinator to oversee Africa.

Our African coordinator is currently working with over 500 pastors who desperately need training and bibles. Many of this pastors hear the word of God and get saved, then the next morning they get up and feel the call of God on their lives. Often they live in outlying areas where there’s no internet access and no bibles.

Yet, feeling the need to share the gospel with their town or village they decide to become the only pastor that community may have. Imagine, no training, no bible just the Holy Spirit, the call of God on your life and the knowledge of how they got saved! As you may have guessed there are a lot of incorrect doctrines being passed about.

I’ve created a 20 page document that will be used to train these pastors. They’ll be learning the basics of the faith, the offices of ministry, how to read, pray, study and prepare sermons.

The average income of residents in the outlying areas are $30-$50 a month. It costs $150 to purchase an NIV bible in Africa. You can see that most people can’t afford a bible. Even if 30 people gave one dollar a month (a huge amount) it would take 5 months just to get enough money to purchase a single bible.

The African coordinator will be asking those who live in the metropolitan areas to print off as many as three books of the bible to help tide these pastors over until they can collect enough donations to purchase a bible. The selected books are John, Romans and Galatians.

We aren’t soliciting funds for the purchase of bibles for these new pastors at this time. We are looking into less expensive ways to provide a single bible per community for the pastors in the near future. If you’d like to be informed of that please join the free membership.
