The Call
Hi there. My name is Tim Russ.
Since I first became a Christian in
1978 I've asked God to give me a life goal. A work that is so
big that it would require his help in order for me to complete the
mission.
On my 30th wedding anniversary God blessed me with a clear calling to create
a new bible translation that utilized the best of the literal
translation style (like the New American Standard Bible uses) and
the commentary translation style (like the NIV uses).
He asked me to do this work and then
give it away royalty free. He also asked me to create a world
wide ministry using the internet and this new translation. His
goal for me is to use this new translation and the organization to
change the world.
The Plan
This will be a 5 phase process.
Phase 1 - The Gift Bible
Phase 2 - The Gift Bible Software
Phase 3 - The Gift Bible Commentary
Phase 4 - The Gift Bible College
Phase 5 - The Gift Bible Licensing Organization
Phase 1 - The Gift Bible
The Gift Bible translation will be
created by identifying and contracting the services of qualified
Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek scholars to translate no more than three
books of the bible. Teams of three (3) translators will work
on the same three books of the bible. One scholar using the
literal translation style, one using the commentary translation
style, and one using both styles in such a way as to produce clear
results.
Once all three scholars have
translated all three books of the bible they're working on they will
all compare notes between their three sets of translations to come
to a clear translation that utilizes the best of the literal and
commentary styles to create the final version of the three books
their team will translate.
In all, 22 teams of translators will
be utilized for this translation process. I'll have one key
person working with me who will select two other people to oversee
the contracting of the translation teams. One will oversee the
old testament translation. The other will oversee the new
testament translation.
This bible will be given away as a
gift to the world. There will be a few minor restrictions
(more suggestions than anything else) for large commercial ventures.
Those are mainly keeping their profits low than anything else.
It is my hope that authors will use
this translation, royalty free, to create clear works that will
glorify God and share his word and his principles with others.
Phase 2 - The Gift Bible Software
Once the bible has been
translated we'll be creating bible software that will have all
royalty free bibles and public domain Christian study material
included. This software will also be given away royalty free.
It's my hope that people
will be able to download this bible study material and use it for
personal growth and to build up the body of Christ.
Phase 3 - The Gift Bible Commentary
A bible commentary is an
invaluable tool for those seeking serious knowledge of the bible.
Using the same basic principles and organizational structure as the
translation process I plan on creating a complete commentary set
based on The Gift Bible translation.
This commentary will
also be given away as a gift to the world. It will be
incorporated into the software to enhance the study ability of the
bible software.
Phase 4 - The Gift Bible College
Tools to learn are good
but tools without people to utilize those tools are worthless.
There are many people who for one reason or another just can't or
don't feel led to go to traditional bible college. Some may
have ministries that are nontraditional and don't see a need for a
college degree.
Yet, everyone needs to
be trained and working for the Lord utilizing knowledge. Even
the apostles spent several years living with Jesus, learning from
him. By establishing a free online bible college I hope to
prepare people to be good stewards and ministers of God's word.
Phase 5 - The Gift Bible Licensing Organization
Finally, it is our
sincere desire to establish a ministerial licensing organization to
legitimize those who have taken the time to answer God's call on
their life. Licensing will also be freely provided.
I don't think that those
seeking a license need my approval to answer God's call on their
lives. I merely seek to agree with them about this call and to
provide them with credentials that others who need to see those
credentials will recognize.
